Rocky Mountain National Park Dec 2020

We went on several hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park and the surrounding areas while visiting Colorado this year.  Averaging about 6 miles a day on our hiking days.  We also went sledding several times, built a snow fort, a snowman, enjoyed the outdoor hot tub, played checkers and drank hot coco, wildlife viewing, etc.

We always try to explore a new area for one day when we go on our semi-annual trip to Estes Park and the Rockies. This year, we explored Red Feathers Lake area. We found a cute library and playground, saw antelope and tons of mule deer, and plenty of ranches, lakes, and wind! We returned to Estes for Antonio’s Pizza, a few games of family checkers and a game of pool.

I almost forgot about the epic snowball fight…

Colorado 2017

The Kings are celebrating Christmas 2017 (early) in Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. A rare opportunity to be in such a beautiful place with all of our kids at the same time! Today we hiked to Emerald Lake!  Other adventures on this trip will include: Sledding in RMNP, a visit to Grand Lake,  More Hiking: Mills Lake, Dream Lake, Nymph Lake, Bridal Veil Falls, and we might even do some painting on our hikes! Burr!

Total Eclipse Adventure

So we have had “Scotty” since the day of the Eclipse! Lance packed up the girls, headed to KY to experience the full eclipse… Then, he headed down to MS and picked up “Scotty”… and now he lies under our carport (Scotty, that is). He is well used as my QUIET office space and the girl’s top choice of where to do school work. He will also be used as a mobile office and a mobile school… and as our “upgraded tent”.

Sometimes adventure comes with bumps or bruises… and maybe even a broken bone!

Leave it to one of the King’s to be the very first patient ever at the brand new Prairieville location of the Bone and Joint Clinic of Baton Rouge! Shout out to the entire staff! Dr. Frierson has taken care of my kids in the past, and he and the entire staff were friendly, professional, and compassionate as usual. The new office is such a blessing to the Ascension Parish community, and located conveniently off of Airline Hwy near Post Office Rd, and the facilities are top notch! We highly recommend this clinic and Dr. Frierson!!! As for Roo… She has a broken clavicle from a mini-horse wrangling accident. She only cried for a second initially, but did complain of pain through the evening and this morning. When she complains, you know something is up! She is one tough cookie!

Mission Trips…

Few moments in life help define a person… helps them to step out of their comfort zone, and to just be. One summer during college, I had one of these moments. There isn’t a week that goes by that I don’t think about it… the time, that against my parents wishes (but with their support), I raised funds to go on a mission trip with two strangers from Texas. I packed a bag, and I was off to Mexico for a couple of months. Some of you helped support this journey either through thoughts and prayers or financially, and I thank you! If you have missions on your heart, whether long term or short term, listen and seek. If a missionary speaks at your church (and is still in financial need), and you feel led, give. I urge everyone to either support a mission or go on one yourself…you will not regret it. Back when I was in Mexico, there was still AOL dial up, and social media was nonexistent… I know many years have passed, but I recently came across a video from 2012 that is almost a mirror image of my time spent at Casa de la Esperanza, a moment in time that changed me, and helped me become the woman I am today. I was close to calling Mexico my home, but instead, God told me that “home is where the heart is”, and Lance had already stolen a piece of my heart, and it was back in Louisiana. Thankful and blessed!

And our family grew by one more!

Gemma, the Wheaten Terrier!  One of the original all around farm dog breeds.  In a couple of days, she will meet Gypsy, our Australian Shepherd, who used to herd sheep until we moved back to the city… now she herds the mailman and neighborhood kids!

Summer Road Trip 2017

Like most of our road trips, we have a final destination…but the things that we do in between are not planned. We have had a great time already… we had a history lesson at the Vulcan museum, we saw some antique modes of transportation, we ate at an authentic Mexican restaurant, saw a pet lion, a tortoise, an arctic fox (among other critters), viewed an old pioneer village, rode a small train, and my favorite…we hiked behind a beautiful waterfall!!! Once Lance gets back into the car with a landscape timber and a wooden dowel, we just have to stop to get a few groceries, and then we have a 45 minute drive to the campsite! Let the adventures continue!!! Thank you to our friends, families, and neighbors for holding down the fort while we are getting some much needed family time!

The Great Outdoors

A good day! My favorite time to be on the river is midweek. It is quiet and peaceful. Thankful for my family, time to relax, and the beauty of the outdoors!  Now, I can’t wait until next year when the girls are homeschooled again and life is on our time!
