Nature and Kids

The essence of childhood, the beauty of nature, the complexity of innocence, the blessing of life, the desire of a true legacy, the hope for tomorrow, the truth for today, time in His presence.

Homeschooling with a baby

Homeschooling with a baby can be difficult, but it is doable.  Here, Kbug is completing a puzzle while his sister is in speech.  He is always so well behaved as we wait in the school library.  Once we get home, he isn’t “bad”.  How can a 10 month old be “bad”?  He is just even more comfortable in his own skin. Therefore, he is into EVERYTHING!12138608_10204954963817710_5165902561234610220_o

Homeschooling Reshaped

I just finished my first week of training for my new teaching position at Louisiana Key Academy, and I am so excited to be part of such an amazing team of professionals dedicated to the mission of helping the 1/5! Blessed that some of these amazing teachers/staff will take my girls under their wings and guide them in their learning this school year. I don’t necessarily look at this transition as an exit from homeschooling ; it is just a reshaping of our homeschooling schedule. A majority of the girls’ learning will be done outside of our home, yes… and I will not be their primary teacher during school hours… but my girls’ learning will be as it should be – prescriptive to their needs. Now, as far as the boy goes, he will be going to daycare for the first time 😦 to enjoy his “playtime”, expend some energy, and meet some new friends. Then, when my family coexists in the same location – under the same roof or under the same stars- whether it be in the afternoons, weekends, holidays, or summers – we will continue to enjoy learning as a “homeschooling” family!

My girl is growing up!

You can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl! She has been helping daddy prepare “dinner” and has been hauling pond rocks for two days in order to help me with another backyard project. For those faint of heart or with weak stomachs, don’t read any further… She also put her finger in the remaining rooster heads and put on little puppet show for us! I can’t believe she is almost 6! Love her!

Backyard projects with the girls

The girls and I have had a busy morning. Moved crushed limestone, set stepping stones, trimmed crepe myrtle, moved swing back, and added a small potted blueberry plant. The girls were very instrumental in creating this beautiful sitting area with a view of our chickens and the pool… And Kbug took a long enough nap to allow us to get it all done. Now, time to relax, swim, and eat Mahi Mahi… While thinking about the completion of the next project 🙂.

Big changes to come for the Kings

Homeschooling the last few years has been a blessing for my family. But, in August, we will be starting a new chapter…Many things will be missed about homeschooling next school year, but so excited that my girls will be part of something great, and it is basically right in our backyard. My girls will be attending a charter school for dyslexic students. In fact,  Kbug will be going to daycare for the first time, and I will be going to teach 4th grade at the same school that the girls will be attending.  Prayers are not only needed but appreciated.
