We try to make cooking and learning about nutrition a regular part of our “homeschooling”. The girl’s really enjoy cooking. Keto cooking – High fat, low carb!

Nature Study
Since it is supposed to rain tomorrow, we did our nature study today. We learned about and painted the woodpecker. Kbug also participated.

Today is for Exploring!
As everyday should be… Kbug is kinda bummed in this picture because he could only fin one of his rubber boots.
Estes Park, Colorado
Oh what a trip. Estes Park is one of my favorite places, Historic Crags Lodge, Rocky Mountain National Park, Old Fashioned Georgetown Christmas complete with roasted chestnuts…sledding, snowshoeing (Alberta Falls), winery tour and wine tasting, 7 mile hike through a snowy wonderland (Bear Lake), hot chocolate, s’mores, and checkers by the campfire. We bought a wildlife book and took it along on the trails so that we could identify Elk, Mule Deer, Magpie, Stellar Jay, etc. So, glad we bought the book. It really heightened the connection with the critters that we encountered. What an experience!
Colorado, here we come!
The girl’s first flight! Adventure awaits! So much to learn about at the airport (especially when your flight is delayed)! They are so excited to go see some snow!
Happy Early Birthday KBug
We celebrated Kbug’s B-day a week early because Lance and I are taking the girls for what we are hoping to be an epic adventure during his birthday week. One of the many joys of homeschooling… adventure! And vacations while the rest of the world is in school.
Halloween and Super Heroes
My kids enjoy watching superhero films… so this Halloween we have Bat’wo’man, Cat woman, and the joker (complete with green hair and all). We modified Roo’s mask, and created the other two costumes.

The Treehouse
Though we live in an older neighborhood with oak-lined streets, our backyard is pretty void of trees. More than likely because of the pool. We do have our Elm and three crepe myrtles in the front, and a large pine in the back. Since Lance and I were young, we wanted a treehouse. Well, now our dreams have come true. My dad and Lance are almost finished building a treehouse with our pine tree coming up the middle. Here is a sneak peak.

Nature Journaling
Part of our Homeschooling journey is nature journaling. Not only do the kids journal, but I get to as well. Here is one of my entries. The scavenger squirrel approaches the pool for a drink of water. The birds chirp. The squirrel stretches its neck down with his body hanging in a vertical position from the pools edge and tastes the brine. The birds soar overhead. the squirrel raises his head as to observe his surroundings for predators (namely for the dog and cat which usually reside on the property). To the squirrel’s delight, They are no where to be found…not even heard. The squirrel drinks. The dog rests under my feet. The cat probably hunting on the other side of the wooden pine fence. The birds call, tweet, chirp, coo, and sing. Nature is among us.
The pool’s gentle ripples. The blades of grass sway. The leaves of the Satsuma tree dance. The sky blue with grey and white clouds being highlighted with the setting sun’s rays. The crackling of leaves in the wind like the song of a campfire. The reminder…fall is now among us. Soon the leaves will change color… The trees will become bare. The Satsuma’s orange. But the birds will not lose their song, the scavenger squirrel will not go thirsty, and nature will remain in the same light, but in a different beauty. For tomorrow is a new day… A new beautiful creation waiting to open your eyes, enhance your spirit, and equip you to appreciate every moment of the life you were given.
