The Elm School is our little homeschool… or as we like to call it, a “Highly Selective Boarding School”. As an extension of our home, The Elm School makes possible a lifestyle in which we want for our family – “de bon coeur – joie de vivre” – which means, “TO LIVE LIFE FULLY, DEEPLY, AND WHOLEHEARTEDLY!”
The Elm School Mission
To esteem our children’s inherent passion to learn, and to encourage this natural inquisitiveness by providing a framework in which our children may discover and explore the variety and richness of the world in which they live.
The Elm School Vision
To nurture the imagination in the early years, building a foundation for abstract thinking, where the intellect is gradually and appropriately challenged.
We implement bits and pieces of several types of educational philosophies – two which are very common in our household, are Charlotte Mason and Waldorf. We take from the Charlotte Mason approach that education “should involve the whole person, not just the mind.” And as the Waldorf approach does, we aim to create “life long learners”. And we too believe that “music, dance and theater, writing, literature, legends and myths are not simply subjects to be read about and tested. They are experienced. Through these experiences, students cultivate their intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual capacities to be individuals certain of their paths and to be of service to the world.”
Therefore, we place equal emphasis on a solid academic program, artistic expression, time spent in nature, social development and attention to the unique and individual natural rhythms of our children, while keeping our Christian values at center.
As human beings, their active-learning began in the womb, and they must be taught the framework of truth, so that they may grow in their own understanding – their own knowledge.
To recognize that teaching must be presented to our children in such a way that they may be filled with wonder, reverence and enthusiasm – so, that they may follow their dreams and live a worthy purpose – based on their own convictions.
